Happy You're Here
Hi, friends! Welcome to my photography blog! I've been thinking about incorporating a blog on the website for a while now. I don't have any set topics or format in mind. Just a way to document my documenting and talk photography!
And I LOVE talking photography.
In this first entry, though, I just want to acknowledge what a difference a year makes. At this time last year, I had announced our upcoming move from Massachusetts to Pennsylvania and that I would be taking most of the year off. Let me tell you, friends, 2024 was a year full of struggle and change for our family. As winter is now surely turning to spring here in Pennsylvania, I can't help but finally breathe a sigh of relief. We are here. We've made it through. 2025 is bringing the turning of a new page.
And, on that note, I'm so happy that YOU'RE here now, as well! I've got the new website up and running, though it still needs some tweaking. I'm getting the details ironed out for this year's Mom & Me minis. I'm also excited to be adding some new sessions to the lineup this summer! If you've been following along for a while, you'll see a big new addition already: more weddings!
Without the steady stream, of the usual summer family sessions and various themed mini sessions, I've focused a lot this past year on the big events such as weddings and you'll soon see... births! I've always strived during sessions to capture the little details and the quiet, and sometimes overlooked moments that often slip by with the passage of time. Well, I am now also SO excited to be expanding into the truly BIG and memorable days, we well.
The hardest part of relocating for me has been leaving so many wonderful families behind. Families that welcomed me into their lives once, twice, five or six times. Children I've had the privilege of seeing grow. The littles that turned into big siblings. The couples I've watched turn into parents. To all my Massachusetts families: I hope you know I carry a piece of you all with me. You've all made an imprint on my heart and it's because of you I was able to take this passion and make it a business.
Starting in PA is like starting over. Marketing and making a name for myself from scratch. I've already met so many wonderful families and couples and look forward to meeting more. My heart grows with each inquiry I get and each session booked.
I've also met several other photographers in the area and am eternally grateful to the western PA photographer community for being so welcoming.
Of course, I'm always scouting for locations, anyway, but knowing where to shoot has been one of the biggest challenges I've had since moving. I've literally made lists of farms, gardens, waterfalls, lakes, fields, venues, etc. and gone out driving with the family to make note of which ones may work for certain sessions. It's been fun searching, but I also find it so frustrating when I am driving and see the perfect field or overlook spot but don't know who owns the land to who to contact... but that happened in MA, too. (Which reminds me, if anyone knows who owns that empty lot at the corners of Highbank and Main in Dennis with the all the beautiful wild flowers, please let me know!)
I am very much looking forward to Mom & Me minis this year and should have that location pinned down in the next day or two. As of right now, I am still potentially available for sessions in Massachusetts, but only event sessions at the moment. I also hope to have summer travel plans pinned down soon, and I do plan on holding some sessions back "home" when I do. Stay tuned, friends.
Thanks for taking this ride with me!
~ Jenna
